Shopee remains to be the top e-commerce marketplace in the Philippines. In June 2024 alone, the platform was flooded with 36.32 million visits. This continuous surge in popularity presents a fantastic opportunity for brands and regular Filipino sellers. However, to stay ahead of the competition, staying informed about the latest Shopee seller policies is crucial.

Filipino online shoppers According to a 2023 study, 93% of Filipino online shoppers are extremely “extremely, very, or moderately concerned with being victimized by online fraud. Shopee knows this very well, which is why they’ve implemented new and updated policies throughout early 2024.

For sellers, falling out of the loop can put you at a disadvantage. Failing to comply with these new Shopee seller policies can result in penalties.

But don’t worry! In this guide, we’ll round up the most important new Shopee policies that every seller in the Philippines needs to be aware of.

What New Seller Policies Should I Know if I’m a Shopee Merchant in the Philippines?

Shopee constantly updates its regulations to ensure a smooth and secure experience for both buyers and sellers. Here are the 5 new Shopee Seller policies you need to know as a Shopee Seller in 2024:

1. Shopee constantly updates its regulations to ensure a 3x Money Back Guarantee

Effective April 25, 2024, the 3x Money Back Guarantee was launched to help buyers ‘shop with confidence and extra peace of mind’. With this new Shopee Seller policy, buyers are entitled to receive triple the amount of the price they paid for counterfeit items.

This regulation, however, only applies to orders made at Shopee Mall. Products from Shopee Preferred Sellers or individual sellers are not covered by the 3x Money Back Guarantee.

Furthermore, the 3x Money Back Guarantee applies solely to counterfeit items. If a genuine product arrives damaged during shipping, the standard Shopee return policy will be followed.

The 3x Money Back Guarantee emphasizes the importance of selling only authentic products at Shopee Mall. If you have a history of selling counterfeit items, you may be subjected to stricter scrutiny.

2. Guaranteed Delivery

The new Guaranteed Delivery policy is another feature intended for Shopee Mall merchants. This regulation aims to avoid or significantly reduce order cancellations unless initiated by the customer.

Now, order cancellations can be unavoidable in certain situations. If you, as a Shopee Mall seller, need to cancel an order you are required to compensate the buyer with a Php50 Shopee Mall voucher. This voucher will be sent via in-app notification within 24 hours of the cancellation and will be valid for 7 days.

The Shopee Guaranteed Delivery policy prioritizes on-time deliveries. To avoid penalties, make sure to regularly review your inventory management and shipping processes to identify areas for improvement.

3. Shopee's 15-Day Return Policy

Shopee has extended its return and refund windows. Customers now have 15 days after receiving an item to initiate a return or refund request. This is an increase from the previous 7-day window, offering buyers more flexibility.

What’s more, even if a customer clicks “Order Received,” they can still file for a return and refund as long as the order is still within the new timeframe.

With the new Shopee return policy, customers will have ample time to inspect their orders. However, should still abide by Shopee Mall’s Return Terms and Conditions to ensure a full refund.

4. Change of Mind Return Program

As if the 15-day return policy isn’t enough, Shopee also introduced the Change of Mind Returns Program. This is a new return & refund reason that allows customers to return products, even if there’s no issue with the product itself.

You read that right! This new Shopee guideline allows buyers to return products if:

  1.  The fit & style of the product doesn’t suit you
  2. The product has a better price somewhere
  3. You don’t need the product anymore

This new Shopee return & refund policy only applies to stores and items with the Change of Mind Returns logo.

The buyer must ensure the items are returned in their original condition, unopened and complete, in original packaging, with seals intact, and with commemorative packaging preserved.

If these conditions are not met, the seller has the right to refuse the return request.

5. Brand Intellectual Property (IP) Portal

Apart from the return and refund policies, Shopee Philippines also provided the Brand Intellectual Property (IP) Portal for sellers. This one-stop platform supports both brands and Shopee Mall sellers in protecting their intellectual property rights.

In this portal, you can register your brand and submit your intellectual property documents for verification by Shopee. You can also submit cases of IP infringement and monitor the status of ongoing and past cases.
